Capt. Eric

Steve and Eric O.

Eric O. and Steve were ready to go fishing. Another great day of weather. In the morning there was no winds and the ocean was a lake. First thing we went and cast netted some bait (pins and butters),  then we ran straight out to Bethel Buoy. On the way we came across a big school of bait. Mostly Sardines with a few thread-fins mixed in.  We skipped the buoy and went to the ledge. Eric was free-lining a Sardine and hooked up first with a nice Cobia. I got to give it the gaff. I think that is my favorite moment when fishing. It was near 23lbs. We fished the bottom for a couple of hours, catching Sea-Bass, a couple of Gag Grouper, two decent Mangrove Snappers, a Mutton Snapper, a big Trigger, and a few Kingfish. We did search for more Cobia and never were able to spot any. The winds picked up a bit out of the S.E. and it was getting late, so we headed in. It was a lot of fun and a great day of fishing.
