George C. George was back and hoping for another day like last Saturday. The tide was outgoing in the Inlet and the Crabs plentiful again. Two dozen Croakers didn’t take long to catch. When we arrived at the spot it was different than I have ever seen it. No fish! It was tough fishing again. We fished around for awhile and only saw Barracudas. When we could get a Croaker past the Cuda’s and to the bottom, we couldn’t even get a hit. Well George did catch a Redfish that was 29 inches. He missed one other hit that was most likely a Snook. That was it though. I never saw a Permit all day. The weather was beautiful and the wind even laid down to perfectly calm. Well each day is different and this was another tough day of fishing. You cant catch fish from the couch and it’s fishing not catching! At least that is what they say. Thanks again George.
Gary runs a sight called fishquest.com and was in town to do some fishing with his son Eric. I just got my boat back from the engine problems. Yamaha totally hooked me up with a rebuilt engine. This was my first trip with the new engine. We met up at the Inlet. The tide was out going and we had no problems getting crabs on the grass moving through with the tide. Croakers are pretty thick along the beaches.
With nice variety of bait, we headed to a spot. On the way, there were a few Bonita busting on glass minnows. Once we arrived there was another boat anchored right on the spot. This guy wasn’t very friendly. We tried our hardest to fish around him. The fishing was pretty slow. We only saw a few Permit. Nothing like it has been. Gary caught a few Blue Runners. With the storms approaching the other boat left. I quickly positioned the Boat over the structure and got Gary and Eric to drop Croakers straight to the bottom. Gary was getting hit every time. It was just one of those days when nothing stayed on. A few misses and break-offs with the Snook. The Storms were right on us and we had to run. Gary hopefully you don’t hold this day against me. There back and ready for more. We fished together in August of last year. I picked them up at Capt. Hiram’s in the Morning. The weather is nice, winds are light east. The sun is out and it is hot, afternoon thunderstorms were in the forecast. We had the same game plan, catch croakers and make our way to the hot spot. There was a little bump on the ocean, coming out of the south east. The water temp is back up to 78 on the beaches. Bonita are busting everywhere.
Croakers were a little tougher to find today. We had to move around a bit. Once we had enough croakers we headed out. With five big guys on the boat we slowly made our way to our fishing spot. Just a few more days and I will get my boat back. Well once we arrived I spotted the huge Permit that have been around lately. Barracuda’s were very active today. Everyone caught 2 or 3 Bonita each and fed 2 or 3 Cuda’s as well. Mike was having his fun with the Snook. Loosing 3 fish at first and getting it right on the 4th. He landed a nice Snook close to 25lbs. Rob was the big hitter today landing a Permit weighing 20lbs. and a Redfish 20 lbs. as well.
With the storms approaching and the winds picking up, it was time to run back to the inlet. The tide was still coming in when we passed through at 1 p.m. This trip was a lot of fun, I really enjoy fishing with people that acknowledge and appreciate the hard work that it takes to keep everyone hooked up with big fish. The weather today was perfect. The wind was calm and never picked up. I picked George up at the Inlet at 7:30 a.m. We stopped at a shoreline and I netted up a few crabs. After that we went to get croakers. It was a little slower than yesterday. On the way to go fish we noticed a few schools of Greenies. The Bonita are everywhere feeding on glass minnows.
After we arrived at the spot. It didn’t take long for George to spot a few Permit. With a few good casts with a crab, he hooked up a 20 lb. Permit. We landed it and snapped a few good pics. After that I broke one off. I am having some serious bad luck when it comes to Permit. I pulled a hook on one as well. We both caught a couple of monster Jack’s. The Snook were biting but we couldn’t land one. The Snook were hanging on the bottom and kept breaking us on the structure. Man we lost some big fish! If it wasn’t one thing it was another. George also caught a good size Sheepshead and a small Barracuda. We had a lot of action all day. With it getting later in the afternoon the storms were building from the south and it was time to get. Thanks again George that was a lot of fun. I will keep my eye out for the Tarpon.
Jesse and Neil have been out with me before on a night trip. This was going to be a little different for them. we met up at the Inlet in the morning. We headed straight to catch croakers. No problem with catching bait. The tide is incoming and switching around 10:30 a.m. After bait fishing, we were on our way to my spot. Once we arrived I spotted a few BIG Permit. Jesse hooked one up and it gave him a run for his money. That fish was not turning for nothing. It eventually cut him off on the structure, what a shame.
They both caught big Bonita. Jesse caught a Big Snook as well. It was a tough day, we had tons of fish hooked up, but we lost most of them into the structure. There some of the biggest Permit I have ever seen there today. We hooked a few but just could not get them to run the right way. After trying and trying to hook the monster Permit we eventually gave up and decided to try our luck at the Inlet. When we arrived the bite was on. We instantly caught 3 Snook. Then just as fast as catching them, they turned off. It was 2 p.m. and time to go. Thanks again Jesse and Neil, it was great to fish with you two again.
My Boat is down right now with some serious engine problems. I have to thank Yamaha though for taking care of my engine, free of charge. There is not a better company out there. With a loaner boat from my good friend John C. I was able to book a few charters. Edgar, Melanie, Meagan, and Josh are from Texas. We met up in the morning at Sebastian Inlet. The tide is incoming in the morning, switching around 9:30 a.m.
The croakers are pretty thick, we didn’t have a problem. I didn’t see any bait pods of greenies. We made our way to my spot after catching croakers. The action was a little slow at first. Meagan was on fire, she was pretty much hooked up the whole time. She caught a nice Permit, big Bonita, and some others. Josh caught a decent Kingfish. Edgar caught a big Bonita as well. Melanie hooked up a something big, but we never got a chance to see it. I believe everyone had a few good fish on.
We left around 12:00 p.m. and headed to the Inlet to fish the croakers. The bite was on! and that is a understatement. Everyone caught at least two nice big snook. Melanie had the biggest, aprox. 40″. Edgar had the most 4 or 5 biggies. The summer time Snook fishing can wear out the toughest guy’s around. It is defantley a lot of fun! This was a great trip. We met up at the Sebastian Inlet boat ramp in the morning. The tide was incoming early and switched around 10:30. With the early storms approaching we decided to stick close to the inlet. The water temp. is still cold, and the bait situation is tough. The greenies were hard to find but we managed to get a dozen and a half. Croakers were there and we caught about two dozen.
When the tide switched to outgoing, we moved to the inlet and set anchor. The Snook were going off! It is that time of year, if you put a croaker down he is going to hit pretty quick. Well it took a few misses until they got the hang of it. Sans landed the first Snook. Tom caught the second Snook. It took Joel the longest to catch one but once he got one he was on fire after that. He ended up catching the most Snook with four fat one’s. We were close to running out of bait, with the storms building from the west and getting close it was time to call it a day. It was a great trip, everyone caught good size Snook. Thanks again Sans for letting me take you and your friends fishing.
