The tide was outgoing on the way out. The bait was not there today. It was really hard to find. We only managed to get a few. There was a small bump on the water coming from the S.E. I decided to try the Bethel area for a smooth ride home. Well the buoy had some really small baits on it. We made the best of it.
These four were from Ohio and were ready to catch some fish. Mike is a deputy in Ohio. They didn’t want to keep anything, just wanted some action. We slow trolled some live ones. We were getting hits pretty regular. We caught our 4 or 5 Kingfish and 4 or 5 barracuda’s. Of course there is always a few misses. It was a lot of action, which is always fun. Thanks Mike, Linda, Jonathan, and Blake for a good trip. Hopefully we can fish in September/October?
The weather is still nice. Sunny with afternoon storms. The water temp is cold. Jellyfish everywhere. At 7 a.m. the tide was the end of outgoing. The bait pods of greenies were really big and thick just behind Spanish house. Jennifer hooked up first with a nice Kingfish, we released it at the boat. Ken caught 3 nice 30 inch Redfish and had a few good fish on. I think I caught a big Bonita that whipped my but. I swear, I need to fish more.
We caught a few Barracuda’s. We had a few fish get away. No permit today! lots of action, I guess you cant kill it everyday. It was a good day. Other than the 3 JERKS in the Contender that pulled right up on me with there loud-ass twin 2 stroke Mercury’s. You know who you are, enough said.
This was gonna be a good day. The weather perfect with no wind and just plain hot. We are in our typical summer weather pattern. Hot with afternoon thunderstorms. The tide in the Sebastian Inlet at 7 a.m. was pretty slack switching to incoming. I had my girlfriend Jennifer and a friend Matson who fishes with me when we both have time. The greenies are still thick just outside the Inlet.
With plenty of bait in the live well, we left and started our search. The schools of Bonita are feeding on the glass minnows. We made a few casts at them but no luck. Once we got the spot, I threw on a live shrimp and tossed it out behind the boat. I handed off the rod to Jennifer and about 20 seconds later she got a hit. She did a great job of hooking up that fish. It was difficult at first to know what it was, but after a couple of trademark runs I knew it was a big Permit. We got most of the fight on video. It was quite the fight, The permit ended up 20lbs. Jennifer caught it on 10lb. test line. Nice catch!
Jennifer was on fire she couldn’t miss. She caught a nice size Bonita, a small Red Snapper, Barracuda, and a big Jack. 5 species, all good fighting fish on 10lb. test. Matson caught himself a Permit. It was smaller around 7 or 8 lbs. and lots of Barracudas. As for me I caught nothing but a good time. My day was made seeing Jennifer catch that big Permit. That was a great day. Check out the video…..
Ray, Joan and Kristie are from the gulf coast of Florida near Tampa. I picked them up at Capt. Hiram’s in the morning. The water temp. has dropped a bit. The tide was coming in when we left the inlet. There was no signs of bait in sight. There were some Bonita exploding on some glass minnows. We got close enough for Ray to cast and hook up twice on Bonita. He landed the first one and handed off the second one to Kristie and she landed it.
We didn’t stay long before leaving for our fishing spot. Things were slow for awhile when we got there, plus we had no live bait. Ray caught a blue runner and we put out there and a Big Cuda or King hit it. I saw the fish but just could see the back of the fish. It was black so most likely a huge Barracuda. After a few more passes, Kristie hooked up with a good fish. She did a great job of handling the fish. After some good fighting she landed a nice permit. On the next drift she hooked another but it got off. Ray caught a keeper Redfish a few moments after that. It was a beautiful day. No wind but some storms to the west. Thanks again Ray, Joan, and Kristie. I hope you enjoy the fish!
Father’s Day, I picked Len and his son Sam up at the Sebastian Inlet State park. The weather was perfect no wind and nothing but sun. The tide was incoming in the morning. The greenies were right outside and close to the mouth. No kingfish in them though. It was slow, we fished around the bait pods for awhile. When the tide switched and we decided to try the Inlet. Len hooked up a Jack and handed it off to Sam. He had a blast reeling it in. It wasn’t long after that and Sam got to reel in a monster Snook. That was awesome, the Snook did not want to stop running. It was a very cool moment seeing how excited Sam was to catch that trophy Snook. We got some great pics. Thanks Len, it was great to spend the day with you and your son.
Steve, Jaron, and Dave R. Steve, Jaron, and Dave are from Melbourne. Dave has fished with me before. I picked these three up at Capt. Hiram’s. The weather was near perfect. It was blazing hot though. We decided to try for Kingfish, because of the good day on Friday that I had. The greenies were there but a little shy. They were getting hammered from all the boats. As the boats laid off they started to come up more. A couple of schools of big Jacks were roaming. Never could get hooked up. I missed a couple of hits. The tide switched to outgoing around 10 a.m. We moved into the Inlet around 11. We set up a few drifts and Steve was first to hook up and land a nice Redfish. A few drifts later Dave caught himself a nice Redfish. Jaron hooked up and landed a small Goliath on a crab. There has been some crabs on the grass. Thanks again Steve, Jaron, and Dave. I’ll get pics up asap.
We left the dock around 8 a.m. We were up late fishing the night before. The weather was perfect. Calm winds and nothing but sunshine. After a quick trip to the Fisherman’s Den we were off to find some fish. The tide switched to outgoing in the inlet near 8:30 a.m. We scooped a few crabs up off the grass. The bait pods of greenies were thick just outside the inlet. After loading the bait well with greenies, we slow trolled a few. The action was hot! Jesse caught two nice size Kings. Bob missed a few and did get too fight a decent size Bonita. After fishing for the Kings we decided to go try for the Permit. Well lets just say no luck. We might have a few fish on. Jesse it was nice to meet you. I am sure we will fish again. Bob, lets get that curse off of you.
Catch and Release Snook, season is closed. I picked Sans and Greg up at 6 p.m. We looked for the croakers but not much luck. I came inside and had no problem catching pins. The tide switched to outgoing around 6 p.m. As it got dark we moved into the inlet. It was a great night Greg instantly hooked up with a nice Red. Sans caught a nice Red as well. The first two Snook were in the slot size, go figure. Greg also caught a monster Snook. Nice catch, Greg. Sans had a good size Snook too. We were careful with the Snook and released them with care. This was a great night with tons of action. A night to remember. Thanks Sans and Greg. Sans I will see you in July. Let me know on your dates?
