The Strikezone Shootout was this weekend. Dan and I fished it together. The moon was at its brightest and fullest! The tournament started on Friday night at 9 p.m. and weigh-in was before 5 p.m. on Saturday. We fished for Snook Friday night. Dan caught the winning Snook, 12.3lbs at 9:30 p.m. We caught a lot of Redfish. Smallest Red was 28″.  That ended up our only Snook.

After Snook fishing we fished the flats for Trout. We didn’t spend too much time with Trout. We ran into our friend Scott L. who already caught 10.13lb. Trout. So, our chances of catching one bigger was pretty slim. At 4 a.m. we crashed for a few hours then headed for a day offshore. We caught some fish, a few small kings, a small keeper Triple Tail and had a few shots at a couple of small dolphin. We also had a 40-50lb. Cobia swim up to the boat, I reeled a bait right up to him but he just turned his head and swam away. The full moon was having its effect on the fishing. We managed to pull out the winning Snook though. This was a very fun Tournament. Inshore and Offshore, fishing 20hrs. I will definitely fish the Strikezone shootout again next year.

We headed out of the Sebastian Inlet at 8 this morning. The water temperature is still a little chilly. It was 64 degrees this morning. The temperature came up to 68 when we came back in this afternoon.The weather was beautiful, sunny and calm S.E. winds.  We stopped at a few bottom spots and dropped. We caught lots of Sea Bass, a few Triggers, and some small Snapper. We never had a big hit.

We stopped and fished a weedline on the way in. We found one turtle with a small Cobia on it. Jose caught and released it. It was a beautiful day on the water and fun fishing Jose again.

The weather  was a little windy in morning. SW 15knts. We caught some bait then hit the beaches. The tide in the inlet was incoming.  There were  a lot of birds diving and the Bonita were feeding on the schools of glass minnows. It was a little scattered but if you timed it right you could get hooked up. Joe had the touch he ended up catching 3 Bonita, all on light tackle.  We had to sit him on the bench so Jim or Matt could catch one. Matt ended up with the biggest which went 15lbs on the boga.

We cruised the beach to the north and came across some Mullet schools. There were a few Tarpon swimming under them but they not feeding. We also seen some nice Snook. We couldn’t get a hit so we decided to run out and catch some dinner. The bottom was slow in the 50-60ft stuff to the north of the inlet. We had to move south and eventually came across some active bottom and caught there limit of Seabass. It was a great day on the water and we even got a good rinsing on the way in! The weather has been hot, but perfect lately. The fishing has been a little slow.  We met up at the Inlet Marina and decided to go a little further out and try for some Dolphin.  We slow trolled a weed line and caught our fish.  There was a little bit of action. I even got to get into the mix and got to catch a decent fish. We were using light tackle which made it even more interesting. We did a few bottom drops at a couple of different spots. Seabass was the only thing biting, seems to be the norm lately.

It was a great day today.  Great fishing and great people! thanks  Jose for fishing with me again!  I always enjoy our trips!

After sleeping in,  Matson and I decided to give fishing  a late start. The weather and seas were perfect. The bait was still a few miles of the beach. We caught 5 or 6 Bonita and 2 kings around the bait pods. After the Bonita whipped our butts we decided to go and take it easy with Seabass. The bottom is still a little slow. We did catch our limit of Seabass and while doing that we caught 2 small dolphin. It was a pretty fun day with a little more action.

With the past few days being rough, no one had been fishing. It was calm and we decided to go for it and headed south. The seas were 2-3 ground swell.  The greenies and sardines are a few miles of the beach.  A lot of grass everywhere. We fished a few spots out on the 90ft. ledge. The current was strong and tough to fish. We moved to the north along the 50 ft. stuff. We caught plenty of Seabass. No big hits on the flat line or the bottom. It was still a very nice day out on the ocean. Thanks again Jose for a great fishing trip.
