Dave, Greg, Mikey, and Joey

5-24-08 Joey Permit  Dave is from Minnesota Mikey and Joey are his boys. Greg lives in S. Dakota and is Dave’s brother-in-law. I picked them up at the Sebastian Inlet State Park boat ramp. The weather was perfect, a light west wind and sunny. We decided to try for Kings and Permit. When we left the Inlet the tide was incoming. The greenies were thick, there were about 6 huge schools on the surface just north. We caught plenty of baits. I also picked up 3 dozen live shrimp.

When we arrived at our spot. I set out a free line and slowed trolled. It only took about 1 minute and there was a fish on. A big Barracuda. We set up drifts over the spot and were sighting schools of permit. Joey was hot handed, this 10 year old can fish. He landed a nice Kingfish and a nice Barracuda. Joey also hooked up a permit for a bit but it broke off. Greg and Joey both lost one as well. Joey hooked up his second permit and landed it all by himself, 15lbs. I’m telling you this kid was impressive. Greg was having a heck of day, just some bad luck. Patience paid off at the end though when he hooked up to a screamer Permit. A fight that he will never forget. It was a nice 20lb. fish. That was so great to hook you guys up. I thank you for everything and it was all my pleasur e. Hopefully we can fish together again soon.

Miguel, Rick, Aaron, and Nathaniel

Nathaniel Permit in May The weather was perfect with a light breeze out of the south. We headed out the Sebastian Inlet just after 9 a.m. There were Spanish and Bonitas every where. We decided to try our luck and go for some bigger fish. I found the greenies just near my house. We trolled for a bit and nothing. We headed to a wreck and caught some big Jacks. Everyone got to catch a big Jack. It was quite the sight to see Aaron reel one in. He got the taste of what it is like to battle a big saltwater fish. Nathaniel caught a Barracuda and Had the only two Permit hits. Missed one and caught one. Great job on the Permit. We also caught a king. Thanks again guys for the trips it was a blast.

Aaron, Garrett, and Hunter

Hunter Snook 7-11-07 Aaron, Garrett, and Hunter were off for a day and were amping to catch some fish. Well I was really wanting to put these guys on some permit. We started off in the morning catching bait(Pins and a few Croakers). After the live baits we stopped and netted a few crabs. Finally, time to go fish.

We headed to fish for the Permit and once we arrived the storms started to brew up. We decided to fish for a bit before the storms arrived. Garrett hooked up with a Barracuda, we landed it and snapped a picture. Aaron was wanting to catch a Barracuda too, so he was next to hook up. We landed it and snapped one more picture. The Permit were not showing themselves and the storm was on top of us. I decided that we were going to have to leave. I don’t like lightning.

The storm chased us all the way back to the inlet. We took cover in a pavilion at the state park. We had some lunch and let the storm pass. The tide was outgoing for a little more and it was time to get on it. Well, Hunter and Aaron dropped a croaker in and both hooked up instantly. Aaron lost his, but Hunter was still golden. He had a nice fat Snook and it was giving him a fight. Hunter got the fish to the boat for a nice picture. We set back up and it was Aaron’s turn. This time he got the hook set in good. The Snook was a little smaller but was still a good fish. The tide was slacking and the bite was over. Aaron did hook a Tarpon on a crab but didn’t have a chance. The Tarpon took off around the jetty and that was it. Thanks again guys for a fun trip.

Lenny & I

Lenny's Permit 7-3-07 I have been thinking of permit lately and was wanting to go check out this spot that I fished a few years back. I invited a good friend Lenny. We met at Hiram’s around 7 a.m. The moon was full and the tide was high. We went to catch some crabs. It was difficult, but we did manage to get a dozen. We picked up some lives with the cast net on the way out of the Inlet. There were Spanish Mackeral along the beaches. I didn’t see any Tarpon.

We arrived at the wreck and started free lining some lives. We caught a Barracuda and missed a few cuda’s. We started fishing crabs and nothing. As the afternoon started in the sun straight up. The schools of permit started showing themselves. I hooked up with a nice Permit, what a fight, man that fish screamed. I would say it was close to 15lbs. We finally landed it and snapped a few pics.
Well we both missed two nice hits. Then I hooked the second fish. This one was bigger, It was on. These fish can pull, fast, hard and long runs. What a fish. I enjoyed every moment, we managed to get some video and pics. This Permit was approx. 20lbs. Well we had our limit and we wanted to keep fishing. Lenny hooked up next with a screamer! He was stoked, his fish was a biggie as well. This fish made a few long runs and put up one heck of a fight. Lenny did a good job at fighting this one. I did get most of it on video. That was Lenny’s first Permit.

The winds started up and it was getting later. The Permit were still there up on top but we were out of crabs. What a awesome day, a total Attitude Adjustment! check out these pics…
