John, Steve, Mae Beth, and Gay

007 John and Gay live near the Inlet and just moved here from the Dallas, TX.  area. Steve and Mae Beth are friends that are visiting. I picked them up at John’s dock at 5:30 p.m. and we went and caught our pigs and pins. We had no problem with bait. The weather was nice, not to cold and the wind actually laid down a bit just before dark. The tide switched just before dark to incoming.

The Redfish were out in the middle and on the 2nd drift both Gay and Mae Beth hooked up with two monsters. We landed both fish and got some nice pics. We continued to play with the Reds for awhile. Everyone got to catch one or two. When we started to target the Snook, John hooked up first landing a short. John was on fire he caught a lot of fish including a few more Reds. Gay was on fire as well she put the two keepers on the boat. There were a lot of short Snook being caught. Well, it was a great night for fishing and there was plenty of action for all. John, Steve, Mae Beth, and Gay it was nice to meet and fish with you all, it was a lot of fun and thank you again John for your generosity.

Rick, Bart, Logan, and Hunter

006 Well its been a bit since I have written. I fished last week on Friday and Saturday and pretty good. The wind picked up on Saturday and blew really hard. Rick, Bart, Logan, and Hunter are from Orlando. We were suppose to fish on Monday but it was still blowing a little hard. Rick met me at the Inlet around 5 p.m. We went straight to bait fishing, pigs are still good and thick. Rick and I picked the others up back at the dock after we caught our bait for the night. Hunter is Ricks son, he is 9. Logan is 15 and Bart’s son.

We idled our way into the inlet and set up for some drifts. The tide had just started to move out. After a few drifts of learning and getting the feeling of fishing the inlet, these guys were ready. Logan would be the first to hook up with a keeper  31″ Snook, great job of landing that fish. Well it was pretty much on after that. Every drift someone would hook up with a nice Snook. Hunter got to reel a few in as well including a keeper. Bart hooked up with a huge Red and it gave him a heck of a fight. He never got it to the boat, but I did get a good look at it. It was a biggie. We tried to land it but we were just stuck with the tide ripping out and it being rough. Rick Caught a bunch of good Snook including a keeper. We ended with our limit and everyone caught over sized Snook. This bite was awesome it was a great night, I would say between the four of them they landed 20-25 Snook. I was busy as can be. It was some sight to see and a lot of fun. Thanks Rick, Bart, Logan, and Hunter for fishing aboard the Attitude Adjustment. It was a pleasure to take you guys fishing. Enjoy the fresh fish!

Tom and Aaron

Tom and Aaron Tom is a friend of a friend and is in town from San Diego, California. Aaron is his 10 yr. old son. We met up at the Inlet in the morning. We went and caught some pigs and pins. Seems like the pigs were not as thick. It was a little tougher than the norm lately. The tide was switching to outgoing around 8:30 a.m. The weather was perfect. When we arrived at the inlet, the tide was all ready moving out. Once I got the anchor set Tom got a bait out and with in a few minutes hooked up. That one would get away. It took a little while for him to get another chance. But when he did, he did a great job at setting the hook and whooping that fish. It was a nice fat Snook that was just a bit over sized.

Aaron hooked up next. It was classic, to see this 10 yr. old try and hold on to the pole while this Snook pulled. Tom had to help him at first. Aaron almost got pulled in the water landing his first Snook. It was 32 inches on the dot. That would be the only keeper of the day. After his first two fish, Aaron began pulling them in all on his own. That was pretty cool. Tom caught a few more big Snook and a monster Redfish. Overall, it seemed like the Snook wanted croakers more than the pigs or pins. we did put some nice Snook on the boat. Tom it was a pleasure to take you and Aaron fishing and meet the both of you, thanks again for the support. I’ll talk to you next time.

Jennifer and I

10-10-08 001 Well the weather is perfect right now. The winds have laid down. There has been quite a bit of rain the last few days. Sorry I have not posted anything in a few days. The tide is switching to outgoing around 8 a.m. Jen and I got down there around 7 a.m. and caught our pigs, bait is plentyful. I guess there is a few croakers being caught as well. We had some fat pigs with in a hour.

When we showed up at the inlet, there were 5 other boats anchored up. I got lucky and grabbed a spot on the end. Jen tossed a bait out first and hooked up first. That was not a good situation, there were some eguipment problems. The Snook got off, oh well. I quickly got a bait out and hooked up pretty quickly with a nice keeper 31″ Snook. That was fun, one down one to go. Jen and I hooked into the same Redfish. The fish had inhaled both our baits, Jen’s hook was deeper. That was a trip, both of us were hooked up and our lines were moving together in sinc. It took a second to realize we both were tugging on the same monster Redfish. The bite was weird, it was taking a few minutes of bait soaking to get hit. I caught and released 3 Snook that were oversive, 35″ range. The Snook moved a little and we stopped getting hits. I moved us twice and got us a little closer to the tip. Finally, Jen got our 2nd Keeper and a shorty as well. It was a great day with Jen. We got to spend some time together and catch some fat fish.  Game #1 Tonight ALCS, GO RAYS!!!

Thom and Chipper

10-02-08 Thom Fall is in the air. The temp. is down a bit and it feels great outside. The Rays won there first playoff game ever. The Bucs are 3 and 1, and the Snook fishing has been good. If it wasnt for the economy right now life would be perfect. Anyways Thom was in town and it was time to go Snooking. We watched the end of the Ray’s game and headed to the Inlet. Someone yanked my bait out the cage. Who ever you are, If you read this just remember karma is a b-tch. Well, luckily I was ready for that. We were pressed on daylight though. We hauled butt to a bait spot and had 50 baits in about 30 mins.

The tide was still outgoing very lightly when it got dark. We made a few drifts and no fish. The tide switched at about 8 p.m. As soon as the tide switched the Snook began to hit. Thom hooked up first and landed a short Snook. A few drifts later Thom hooked up and then Chipper hooked up, a double hook up. Both Snook were in the keeper size slot. That gave us two fish in the box, we needed one more. Chipper caught two more fish that were way to big and Thom caught a few that were just a bit short. I fished a little and couldn’t get a bite. I was starting to wonder if we were going to get that third keeper. Then it happened I got hit on a small pig. I fed the line to it and set that hook with authority. Snook on and it was a good one. When we landed it, we thought it might be to big. It was fat and maybe just short enough to come home. We measured it and it just made it 31 and 3/4. It was a little difficult to get our fish, but hard work pays off. Thom thanks as always.

Al and Stacy

Stacy and Her Dad Al and a Snook dinner Al and Stacy are from Orlando and come over once a year and vacation at Oyster Point. They know the inlet well and were looking to hook up on the Snook. The weather was raining most of the afternoon and it was questionable if we would be able to do the trip. When I picked them up at Capt. Hiram’s the rain was coming down pretty hard. Al and Stacy were up for fishing rain or shine, hardcore. The bait is really thick. We are catching perfect size pigs and lots of them. The tide was switching to incoming around dark.

After a quick stop so Al could get some dry clothes on, we made our way into the inlet. The tide was incoming and we went right to the drifts. After a couple of drifts, Al was first to hook up. He landed a nice a nice big Redfish. Al landed two other big Reds. Stacy took a bit to get a hit. On her first hit she hooked up and landed a nice keeper Snook. Al was caught a several short Snook before finally catching a keeper Snook. Stacy also caught another slot size snook. This was a great trip. There were only four other boats fishing and the weather cleared up to be a nice night. Thanks Al and Stacy for fishing with me, it was a pleasure to meet the both of you. I hope you enjoy the fresh Snook and the Pictures. I’ll see you two next year. Thanks again.
