We met up at 6 p.m. We headed straight to get bait. The bait seem to be north of the inlet. The winds are calm and moon is almost full. The tide is incoming until midnight. When we finished catching bait, we made our way to the inlet and started fishing. It wasn’t long before Chuck put the first fish on the boat a 27″ Snook, just short. Almost every drift we had a bite. The Reds were thick. The Reds seemed to be all 26″ to 30″ range. Thom and Chuck each put a keeper Red in the box.
We decided to take a break and get a sandwich at Capt. Hiram’s before they closed. After the break we went back to fishing and they were still biting. We got our third Red and a few others. As the tide slowed the Snook started hitting. Thom put the first keeper 30″ Snook in the box. Chuck got the next fish which was a Fatty Snook, we took some photos and released it. Nice fish Chuck! The Snook were following each other to the boat. On the next drift, Chuck hooked up again and landed a keeper 29″ Snook. The tide was starting to move out and it was getting rough. On the last drift I Put the third keeper 30″ Snook on the boat. What a night, perfect weather, limit on Reds, limit on Snook, and lots of released fish. Thom and Chuck thanks for letting me get the third Snook and thank you for the good times.
Ron, Cathy, and Nick are from up state New York. The weather is windy N.E. 15 mph. The wind has been blowing for a solid week. The sun is out and it was clear. The tide is high in the early morning. With the strong winds, fishing was going to be difficult. We worked our way to the east shore line and set up some drifts over a flat that has been producing some nice Reds and Trout, I have even seen some nice size Snook. We fished with some live shrimp and some jigs. Cathy was first to catch a fish, a keeper Trout. Nick caught the next Trout which was a keeper. Ron switched over to shrimp and put a keeper on the boat. Ron also caught a small Jack. Cathy caught the fourth Trout.
As it was getting later we decided to catch some pins and pigs. While we were catching some bait, we had a line out the back and Ron caught a nice size Bluefish. We made our way over to the inlet and the tide was ripping out with the winds blowing hard east. We fished a few spots but never could produce a hit. Thanks again Ron, Cathy, and Nick. It was a pleasure to meet and fish with you. Hope you enjoyed your dinner.
Scott and Larry are from Orlando. The weather was nice, we met up at 6 p.m. and headed to get bait. Bait wasn’t a problem, they have moved a little north, pins and pigs. At sunset we made our way to the inlet. The tide was still outgoing and the fish were east of the bridge. Scott and Larry both missed a few hits. They both had one double that crossed and cut both of them off. It was taking a bit for them to get the feel. Larry hooked a nice Red and got it next to the boat and it was a little bigger than the slot. I lost it for Larry it was my fault. I was trying to land it with out a net and that time the fish won.
On the next drift Scott and Larry both doubled up again with nice Reds and this time they landed them. We took some pictures. The tide slacked and the bite was shutting off. Larry had to leave so Scoot and I went back and fished until midnight. The fishing was really slow. Scott and I fished the everywhere and could not produce a fish. There were no fish even marking. It was the very last drift at 12:15 a.m. and Scott hooked into a monster. It gave him one heck of a first run and then just laid there like it was a rock. I told him to just keep pulling and reeling. Scott did a great job at keeping that fish up. It ended up being a Goliath(35 lbs. approx.) It made for a good ending after a slow night. Thanks Scott and Larry for the trip it was fun.
The Redeye it is a inshore tournament put on by SISA. The tournament runs from 8 p.m. Fri. night through Sat. 3 p.m. and it is Snook, Trout, Redfish, and Flounder. Dan A. and I decided to try our luck. We figured we might have a good chance at making the board. Well we started out at the inlet for the night time snook. We only manage to catch 2 Snook, both of them were keepers but on the small side. We were catching a few Reds as well. I did catch one that just made it. It was close. Dan caught one as well which was just a little big. The bite was slow for most of the late night hours.
We crashed on the boat for 2 hrs. and at light we were there on the flats were the schools of reds have been. No Reds today go figure. We left and went to get our trout and Dan lost a decent one. I caught small one about 17 inches. We couldn’t get the hits. I had a slam to weigh in and Dan had a Snook. Dans Snook was 7.5 lbs. and I had a Red at 7.15 lbs. Snook at 7.25 lbs. Trout at 1.35 lbs. The Red was good enough for 2nd place.
What a day, I started out this morning at 6 a.m. and went out in search of some Reds on the flats. I got there at right before light and when the sun started to light the Reds were tailing in pretty big schools. I missed my first hit but hooked up my second hit on a Zara spook. I stuck with the school and managed to land 2 more nice slot size Reds.
Curtis and Matson were at the dock at 9 a.m. I picked them up and we went and caught a few baits. Croakers are getting scarce on the beaches. We did manage to get a few Croakers mixed with a few Pins and Pigs. We got to the inlet just as the tide was slacking and starting to move out. I caught one pilchard while bait fishing and Matson wanted to use it for a Snapper. He tossed it out and about 5 minutes later hooked up a big Goliath Grouper. He was using 20lb. test with 40lb. leader and landed this monster. I always enjoy when I get to grab a big fish.
The Snook bite was going off. We all were catching over sized Snook. Curtis finally put the first keeper on the boat. Next, I landed a nice keeper. Matson was having trouble getting his slot size. After a few fish we finally got our third. what a day ! first the Reds, a big Grouper, and all those big Snook.
Lenny and Tony have been out with me before and have caught some nice fish. David was his first. We met up at the dock at 5 p.m. The weather has been blowing pretty hard lately and today it has calmed. Bait is another story, it is getting difficult to find them in numbers. I need to explore some old spots. We managed with 3 dozen.
The tide was still incoming at dark and I could get the boat out in the mix of it. Lenny hooked instantly with a nice Red. The hook pulled on that one and a few others but soon he landed a nice Redfish that was just small enough to bring home. Lenny caught a few more that were in the 30 inch range. The mullet are thick right now they have been showing up, its that time. Tony caught a nice big Red before the tide went slack and the bite stopped.
As the tide began moving out the fish started to bite again. David was learning the ropes of the inlet at night. He had a few misses before hooking and landing his first fish, a nice Redfish. The inlet was getting rough so we headed to the back. Lenny didn’t waste any time and hooked a nice Snook and landed it with mad skills. Tony caught one as well which a little smaller but was just there 28″. We ran out of bait and switched to plugs. David caught 2 on plugs but both were small. Tony caught one small one as well. Thanks guys, it is always a pleasure.
Les is from Tampa area and Eddie is his brother in town to do some fishing. We met up at 6 p.m. and went and caught bait. Bait was no problem. The winds were blowing 15 mph. NE. The tide was outgoing all night. We started off with drifts under the bridge and no luck. Since the tide was outgoing and it was windy, we couldn’t get out. We had no luck by the fenders and moved elsewhere.
As the tide got later the fish finally began to feed. It was difficult to fish as well with the wind. Les hooked up first with a Snook and it was just a keeper. Les caught the next as well which was just a little short. Les and Eddie missed a few hits. Eddie hooked into a monster Red and fought that fish like a pro. Nice fish Eddie. Shortly after that he caught a snook which was just bit short. With these new laws its tough. One fish, OK but a 4 inch slot is just plain not right. We made a few more drifts and lost a couple more. Well that was a tough hight to fish with the weather conditions, but we managed. Thanks again Les, Eddie, and Patty
The weather is a little overcast, the wind was light NE. The ocean is building and today is the last day of fishing for a few days. I had bait ready for John and Nancy, we met up at 8 a.m. at the dock. The ocean was just manageable. After a few moments the bait turned on, Redfish after Redfish. John caught 7 or 8 Reds and lost a couple. Nancy caught 2 Reds and that was enough for her. John lost two big fish that we never seen, they were big fish.
John hooked up and was a fighting fish, I thought it was another redfish and as I did a double take I noticed it was a Snapper. I could not believe it, but It made sense with some of the bites we were getting. John had a few Snook on but lost them and I caught one that was 37″. Capt. Mike M. and his party, next to me caught 2. 20lbs. and 13 lbs. That was quite the site a 20lb. Snapper. It was a great trip we caught lots of fish and took some great photos. Thanks John and Nancy.
Thom is from Palm Harbor, Fl. He was wanting to catch some Snook on opening night. The storms were coming through in the evening. There was lighting and Rain until 7 p.m. it finally let up enough to run to the bait. It was still a light rain until 9 p.m. We did manage to get enough bait in that hour for the night. We took our time on getting to the inlet. There was no one on the water, I guess because of the storms. After the Rain, it was super calm and glassy. The fish were going nuts.
I knew right were the fish were from the night before. We set up on them and Thom put a bait in the water and instantly caught a nice Red. Thom hooked up again and again on Reds. He caught a few nice ones. Thom also caught some nice Snook that we released just before season was to open. Well it was getting later and midnight was close. I got two pigs ready and at 11:57 I put a pig on each of our rods and we both hooked up with in minutes, it was to good to be true. I couldn’t believe it we both were hooked up at midnight and both landed keeper Snook. That was our limit 2 fish, one each. That was a great opening night, one that I will remember. Thanks Thom it great fishing and getting to know you.
