Richard L. and Jamie

We met at the Inlet L-dock at 6 p.m. Richard has been fishing with me a couple of times and Jamie was a rookie. The tide was incoming. We fished for a bit and there was nothing biting. We left to go catch some bait for the night time action. The tide was switching at dark and we were back with bait and ready. The bite was happening, Richard and Jamie both lost a few nice fish. Jamie finally did get his Snook. We caught a few Jacks as well and called it a night.

Joe & Tom trip #1
Joe and his son Tom are from the U.K. We left the dock at 7 a.m. I headed north and fished the flats up around Grant. Well the fishing was slow. As the sun came up and it got a lot hotter we decided to catch some live bait and go for the inlet. The inlet was outgoing and there were a few jacks. Well Tom hooked into a nice Red but he lost it after a bit. The fish just got him across the rocks. We decided to call it a day and try again Wednesday night.

Matson and I

7-8-07 34lbs. We met at Hiram’s at 8 a.m. We fueled and set off to find crabs. Well crabs were difficult,we searched and searched. Around 11 a.m. we had a dozen and decided we better go. On the way there we saw some schools of Bonita exploding, we never stopped. We were on a mission to catch Permit.

The fishing was slow for awhile. The later it got the more the schools of Permit started showing themselves. They started moving a little faster and were balling up in tighter schools. Matson finally hooked up and it was on. All the hard work was starting to pay off. Matson had a nice Permit, After about 15 minutes of back and forth Matson landed a 27 lb Permit. Well the fish started feeding. The next few drifts I missed two fish. On one I pulled a hook half way through the fight.

Little did I know that missing those 2 fish was gonna be a good thing. I hooked up on the next drift with my biggest Permit yet. Matson was going for the camera when his rod went off! We were double hooked up. My fish went out and Matson’s fish was going down. This was crazy we had the camera rolling and nobody to film. My fish was big, and I could tell that he wasn’t coming in for awhile. Matson fought his fish straight up and down and after a long battle we landed his Permit approx. 25 lbs. My fish was still way out and now I could bring him closer. Another 10 minutes of battle and we landed my Biggest yet 35lbs. We took some nice pictures and the video should be interesting. The storms were coming in and it was time to go. What a great day of fishing. Check out these Pics.

Lenny & I

Lenny's Permit 7-3-07 I have been thinking of permit lately and was wanting to go check out this spot that I fished a few years back. I invited a good friend Lenny. We met at Hiram’s around 7 a.m. The moon was full and the tide was high. We went to catch some crabs. It was difficult, but we did manage to get a dozen. We picked up some lives with the cast net on the way out of the Inlet. There were Spanish Mackeral along the beaches. I didn’t see any Tarpon.

We arrived at the wreck and started free lining some lives. We caught a Barracuda and missed a few cuda’s. We started fishing crabs and nothing. As the afternoon started in the sun straight up. The schools of permit started showing themselves. I hooked up with a nice Permit, what a fight, man that fish screamed. I would say it was close to 15lbs. We finally landed it and snapped a few pics.
Well we both missed two nice hits. Then I hooked the second fish. This one was bigger, It was on. These fish can pull, fast, hard and long runs. What a fish. I enjoyed every moment, we managed to get some video and pics. This Permit was approx. 20lbs. Well we had our limit and we wanted to keep fishing. Lenny hooked up next with a screamer! He was stoked, his fish was a biggie as well. This fish made a few long runs and put up one heck of a fight. Lenny did a good job at fighting this one. I did get most of it on video. That was Lenny’s first Permit.

The winds started up and it was getting later. The Permit were still there up on top but we were out of crabs. What a awesome day, a total Attitude Adjustment! check out these pics…

Jason S. night trip #2

Jason S. 6-29-07 There is a lot of storms in the area, Mostly holding offshore. The moon is pretty full and there is a good swell coming into the inlet. The tide is incoming all night. Well we caught bait and headed over a little before dark. There was nothing happening when we got there. As it got dark the fish started to hit. Jason wanted to fish a lighter tackle than last night. I set him up with a Shimano 4000 Stradic with 10lb. test. and on the first fish he broke it off. After a few more drifts Jason hooked up with a big Red. It was quite a fight on that lighter tackle, but we landed it and snapped a few pics.

The fishing was a little slow. We just had to work hard for our hits. Jason ended up with 4 big Reds and a small Snook. Jason did a good job at putting a hook in the few fish that did hit. Not bad for a slow night. That was a lot of fun fishing with you Jason. I’ll let you know when I find some Tarpon. Thanks again.

Jason S. from Kentucky

Jason S. 6-29-07 The weather was questionable. Storms were surrounding us. Jason was still amping to catch some fish. I caught pins and pigs before Jason arrived. At 8 p.m. we left for the inlet. There were storms to the south and to the east. When we got there the tide was incoming and the bite was not happening. Jason caught one jack before dark and I even hooked up a big one.

As it got dark the fish started firing. It was hot, Jason hooked up a fat Snook 32 1/2″. This was Jason first Snook and he was stoked. Well next drift, Jason hooked up and landed a nice Red 32″. Jason couldn’t miss. I could tell that he had done some fishing in his past. I threw out a bait and hooked up a Red, that was fun! Next drift and Jason hooks up and lands a big 35″ Snook. That was a nice fish. Well the storms were on top of us and we decided to make a break for it. We made it to the dock and with in a few minutes it was pouring. My camera got wet check out this photo !
