Amy, Jimmy, and Joey

Amy with her Redfish The weather was nice, calm, clear and HOT! Amy, Jimmy, and Joey were in town for a visit with family. Amy wanted to treat Jimmy and Joey to a day on the water. We met up at the dock at 7 a.m. and headed out to catch some bait. The croakers and pigs were a little scarce but we managed to catch enough. The pins were thick. The tide was outgoing in the inlet and it was time to start fishing.

We anchored up, I got a few baits on and tossed them out for Amy and Joey. The bite was on because it didn’t take long before the reels started to sing. It took a couple of missed hook sets and break-offs before everyone got the hang of it. Joey was the first to put a Snook on the boat. This fish was a FATTY, the biggest of the day. Amy hooked up and landed the next fish which was a nice size Snook. Amy did a great job of holding on and angling the fish to the boat. Jimmy had a couple of fish on and something or another would go wrong. After some minor adjustments, Jimmy got a hook in a big Snook and fought it to the end for a Kodak moment.

Amy, Jimmy, and Joey continued to take turns hooking up and landing these big Snook. Amy hooked into a Redfish that gave her a fight that she will remember. After some good old tug-of-war she pulled the fish to the boat. Joey wanted a Sebastian Red more than anyone. He was casting into the hole, but kept hooking into big Snook. (yeah, that sucks!) Well everyone ended with a couple of Snook, tons of action, and some great photos. Thanks Amy, Jimmy, and Joey for a great trip, I enjoyed fishing with you and look forward to the next trip.

John D. trip #2

John D. 7-22-07 John and I met back at the dock at 7 a.m. The weather was calm and just a few clouds. We headed to catch some bait. With about a dozen and half of the good baits, we made our way to the Inlet. The tide was outgoing. We set up out from the jetty. It was a little difficult to get anchored in just the right spot but with the third try I put us right in the sweet spot.

I set John up with a bait. It must of took about 10 min. for the bite to start. Everything was quiet, there were 3 other boats fishing and no one was catching fish. Then John starts to feed the line and begins to count 1…2….3 and its set the hook. Fish On, the drag begins to sing. Back and forth, Last night’s trip is paying off because John did a great job of getting that fatty Snook to the boat. With a quick picture we release the fish and got another bait out. The bite was on, it took about 10 seconds and John began counting again 1…2…3 FISH ON. These Snook are exciting to watch and never let you down, always a good fight. This fish was another fatty and now we were feeling pretty amped.
John did lose a few but managed to boat 8 Snook overall. The biggest being 38 inches and smallest 30 inches. Good job John on catching all those big Snook. Its not always that hot. The tide was slacking and the bite was done. We moved around and tried to find some Reds but no luck. The Storms were nearing and it was time to go. Thanks John for the two days of fishing. Check out the pictures !!!

John D. trip #1
John D. 7-20-07 John is from Palm Beach, Fl. he has the weekend free and has come up to Sebastian to do a little fishing with me. With baits ready to go, we left Capt. Hiram’s at 4 p.m. The tide at the Inlet was just switching to outgoing. We set up and pitched a few baits out. The bite was slow for the first hour. The Snook turned on and it was non-stop action. They were picking the baits up as fast as it would hit the bottom. John ended up with 5 big Snook and lost his fair share.

The bite slowed down, so we decided to set up some drifts and see if we could get a Red. Well first bait, John caught a Jack. John hooked up with a couple of fish that just wouldn’t stop. He would hook up in the same spot every pass. We never did get to see what they were. We eventually found were the Reds were. John ended up with 2 nice big Reds and 2 more Snook. That was another good trip. The fishing lately is incredible. Thanks John.

Jake and I,

7-17-07 Jake Jake is my girlfriend Tiffany’s son. Its summer time and he has been involved in a camp every week since school got out. This is the first chance that just him and I could spend some time together. We made our way to the dock in the morning and proceeded to go catch bait. The weather was perfect and we were on two missions, to catch some croakers for us and some pins for a local charter capt. We managed to catch about 50 pins, 10 pigs, and 6 croakers. Thats all we needed to have some fun.

After bait fishing I dropped the pins off at the dock and we made our way to the inlet. The tide was still coming in and we were going to wait for the switch. There is a lot of baby greenies in the inlet. I was casting a white Rapala and caught a couple of Spanish Mackeral.

The tide was starting to switch and it was time to set anchor. It was just a matter of time until the bite was to start. I tossed out a croaker and with in a few minutes it got hit, Snook on. I set the hook and then let Jake reel it in. It was quite the battle for Jake who is only 7 yrs. old. Well I helped and we finally got the Snook to the boat for some pictures. It was a fatty. The Snook continued to hit one after another until we ran out of baits.

I caught Snook on every rod on the boat. Jake was helping the whole time. His second Snook he did a great job of fighting the fish, just a little help from me. Well we were 5 for 6 on croakers and 2 for 3 on pigs. That was a lot of fun. All the Snook were good size. The smallest was 27″ and the biggest 35″.

Rich V.

Rich V. and Capt. Eric 7-16-07 Rich is from Colorado and was in town with his family. Rich had a day to himself and booked a trip that he will never forget. We met up at Hiram’s in the morning. We went to catch bait for the snook. We caught about fifteen croakers with a mix of pins and pigs. The croakers are showing up around TC. We made it to the inlet and started to fish.

First we set anchor in the back and Rich hooked up with a fatty Snook. The Snook gave him a good fight, it put on show jumping and thrashing. Rich never got a good hook set in and he lost it. Well it was slow for awhile and we decided to head out into the ocean. We chased the Little Tunny around for a bit, throwing everything at them. Rich came close a couple of times. Well the tide was incoming and it was getting closer to changing. We set anchor and waited for a few minutes. I was telling Rich that it should happen soon, well it did. Rich hooked up with the 1st Snook and it was a fatty. Rich is from Colorado and has never experienced a fish quite like that on light tackle. Nice fish Rich.

Well the bite was on, man it was hot. Rich caught one Snook after another. He ended up with I believe 9 or 10 Snook smallest being 15lbs. and biggest 20lbs. Rich caught Snook on every rod on the boat. Rich said his arm was hurting after catching so many Snook. To top it all off Matson pulled up on a jet ski and I gave him the camera and he circled us while snapping pictures of some of the fish. The pictures should turn out nice. We ran out of the right bait and that was that. Thanks Rich for the trip it was great seeing you on all those fish.

Joe and Tom(Son) trip #2
Joe and Tom were back to try some night time fishing, a first for them. They didn’t know what they were in for. Well, we caught some bait. Mostly pins and pigs, just a couple of croakers. The sun was setting and it was time to run. We arrived at the inlet just with enough time to fish the last part of the incoming. We set up anchor and let some baits out. Joe hooked up a nice fish, I thought it might be Snook because it was a croaker that got hit. After a couple of runs we saw it was a nice big Red. We landed it and snapped a picture. Tom hooked up next with a big Jack. That was a good fight for Tom.

It was dark and it was time to set up for some drifts. The tide was going out. Lets just say it was on fire, it was silly. Every drift was a hit. Joe and Tom did catch there fair share of bottom. The fish were hitting just at the same spot every drift. Joe and Tom figured it out and started to catch some nice fish. Tom caught his first snook all by himself. Nice job Tom! After tons of action, the final numbers were in Joe 2 Snook and 1 Red. Tom 2 Snook, 1 Red and 1 Jack. We took Photos but don’t know if they will turn out. Joe thanks for everything. I got a new rod the next day. Email the pictures if they turn out?

Aaron, Garrett, and Hunter

Hunter Snook 7-11-07 Aaron, Garrett, and Hunter were off for a day and were amping to catch some fish. Well I was really wanting to put these guys on some permit. We started off in the morning catching bait(Pins and a few Croakers). After the live baits we stopped and netted a few crabs. Finally, time to go fish.

We headed to fish for the Permit and once we arrived the storms started to brew up. We decided to fish for a bit before the storms arrived. Garrett hooked up with a Barracuda, we landed it and snapped a picture. Aaron was wanting to catch a Barracuda too, so he was next to hook up. We landed it and snapped one more picture. The Permit were not showing themselves and the storm was on top of us. I decided that we were going to have to leave. I don’t like lightning.

The storm chased us all the way back to the inlet. We took cover in a pavilion at the state park. We had some lunch and let the storm pass. The tide was outgoing for a little more and it was time to get on it. Well, Hunter and Aaron dropped a croaker in and both hooked up instantly. Aaron lost his, but Hunter was still golden. He had a nice fat Snook and it was giving him a fight. Hunter got the fish to the boat for a nice picture. We set back up and it was Aaron’s turn. This time he got the hook set in good. The Snook was a little smaller but was still a good fish. The tide was slacking and the bite was over. Aaron did hook a Tarpon on a crab but didn’t have a chance. The Tarpon took off around the jetty and that was it. Thanks again guys for a fun trip.
